KABUL, Afghanistan, Oct. 22 — Fighting between the followers of rival commanders of two Pashtun clans in the western province of Herat on Sunday killed 32 fighters and wounded numerous others, said an assistant to Ismail Khan, the former governor of Herat.
The clash took place in the Shindand district south of the city of Herat three days after a factional commander, Arbab Basir, and three of his men were killed in a clash with another Pashtun commander, Amanullah Kahn.
Motorcycle attack:
He [Amanullah Khan] was wounded earlier this year in Herat in an attack on a vehicle in which he was riding. An unknown man on a motorcycle had tossed a hand grenade at his vehicle as he was traveling to the city of Herat for an event aimed at persuading commanders to hand in their weapons, Agence France-Presse reported.
John had the best written description of a corkscrew landing I had seen. .
