This is a very rare Turkmen rug dating from the early 1980s. Baluchi weight and feel, but medallions are called by Parsons "Baba Saqal".

Wool: soft | Sheen: good | Handle: floppy | Selvedge: Unusual checkered flat selvedge of red and blue wool and dark brown got hair on the outside. | Fringe: Short natural colored wool fringe closed with overhand knots. Then dark brown and red stripes of plain weave, red and blue brocade, then beautiful band of weft substitution, another band of brocade then the pile knots. | Pile: 7 millimeters | Warp: white cotton | Weft: 2 grays cords | Warp Depression:Slight corduroy texture on back, warps depressed roughly 30 degrees |
