The blue in the background of this rug shows nice subtle abrash, and notice how the horizontal bands of color span both the border and the blue field motifs. Rug #1602 - Vase of Flowers Sumac Rug with Helicopter Border " is a very early war rug in the gul-i-birjista technique where there is knotted pile on a ground of weft float brocade.

This is what I call a "Ron O'Calahan VDP" from the 1990's probably contracted through a rug dealer in Cambridge, MA. It shows good abrash in the blue.

"Vegetal" dye Peshawar style rugs, like this one (although it was woven in Afghanistan), show abrash caused by a threads position in the skein: the outside gets more color than the inside. This rug, and other Drone rugs are woven in the Vegetal Dye Peshawar style and often show gorgeous abrash. As of December 2022 this rug, #1689 - Drone Medallion on Sky Blue Field, is available.

Here is an excellent example of skein to skein abrash. The bands of colors are made by variations in skeins of blue dyes. The effect is gorgeous, and over time becomes more pronounced and subtle.

This rug came to warrug in the late 1990s, and it is a gem. It is rug #39 (note the low ID number) Abrash War Afghan War Rug.
