Red Pakistan War Rug with Hand Guns |
Exhibited at: |

This new Afghan war rug is in excellent condition. This is a perfect example of this type. The wool is quite good and after it was woven in Afghanistan, it was sent to Pakistan to receive a special wash that softens the wool and ever-so-slightly mutes its colors. This gives this war rug a lovely abrash. The weapons are classically drawn, suggesting that this weaver has been weaving war rugs since the original Soviet invasion. The helicopters are brilliantly done in the style of tradition (the seats seen in profile inside the helicopter) meeting the contemporary (the blades and the tail rotor). The hand grenades and the bullet border is another example of traditional war rug images, but the hand guns are contemporary and used throughout Afghanistan by American Special Forces in a very unconventional, new type of war as they move through the mountains on a hunt for Osama bin Laden. |
