This is a very good quality warp, strong and rugged.

This fringe is what we call, ""Type 1"" wool. It is the most common warp threads used in Baluchi war rugs.

""Angel Hair"" fringe, excellent luster and transparency. Note how best wool accompanies excellent finishing work. This fringe hits the trifecta. Weft substitution with weft brocade bands, unusual braided closure, goathair selvedge runs through kilim end.

Unique closure. Very good warp.

Unusual sumac skirt with looped fringe. The loop in this fringe is where the warps on end of loom turned around back into rug. Best quality warp wool, buttery, very strong.

""Wave Pattern"" weft substitution. Bright colors are supplemental tufts formed by loose loops of supplemental wefts. Braided closure is basic Afghan Baluchi example. Good warps.

Eroded unbraided weft brocade. Close relative of ""Type 1"" warps.

Reduced kilim. This photo is a good example of what fringe looks like when it made from warps that were part of a kilim skirt but wefts have been removed. Note red line, where a band of red weft would have been. We call this reduced kilim.

Looped warps. These are formed when warps are looped at top of loom then returned to form the next warp. The dowell holding warps is slid out leaving warps looped as shown here.

Reduced fringe. This is done when there is some damage, and all rows of pile are pulled out as far as damage progresses in rug. Bad idea, but once its done there is nothing to do.
