The condition of the war rug from around the time of the Soviet exodus from Afghanistan is excellent with some minor tip fading on the face of the rug. The wool in this rug appears to be spun by hand. The speckled background gives this rug pictorial depth. Also the border of this war rug is interesting, and the main border color appears to me dark undyed wool. This war rug shows no wear which suggests it has been hung on a wall somewhere. |

Wool: Very good. The wool is clumpy and soft, and it has a high lanolin content. The wool has a very rustic hand spun feel to it. | Sheen: The sheen on this war rug has a very nice luster. | Handle: Floppy and soft. | Selvedge: The selvedge on this war rug is one thick cord overcast with brown wool | Fringe: The fringe on this war rug is unique. It has a two inch wool kilim with decorative tufts of pile across the kilim. | Pile: 7mm wool | Warp: Mixed color undyed wool | Weft: The weft is typical for older rugs, it is grey wool. | Warp Depression:Variable. Ribbed texture. |
