General Description: This Soviet era Afghan war rug is in good condition. The colors are beautiful, and the grey tan and white are undyed wool. The white, grey and tan appear to be hand spun wool as well.
The lower part of the field of this prayer rug is an unusual design. The design is a combination of Yakub Khani design (House of Jacob) and a pictorial motif featuring buildings. This shows the most interesting aspect of Afghan war rugs particularly clearly, the combination of old and new designs. The traditional updated by the modern world.
The pickup trucks are an unusual element to find in a war rug. The truck border rugs primarily date to the Soviet era as well.
There are several one inch long sections where the goat hair selvedge has been worn away.
Description of wool: Very good wool. The wool is soft and lustrous. There is a nice variety of types of wool: the tan color seems to be camel, there is also a polychromatic grey, a very dark brown wool (George O'Bannon in his book on ""Kazakh and Uzbek rug from Afghanistan"" talks about a brown wool similar to this that he attributes to Yak wool.), and a natural white wool of particularly good quality.

Pile Material: 4mm
Weft Material: There is a four inch section of grey wool, and the rest of the warp wool is beautiful natural tan.
Warp Material: Grey, looks like wool.
